Dr. Shimaoka earned his Psy.D. from Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University.
Dr. Junichi Shimaoka has over 15 years of experience at university counseling centers and has special interests in outreach, prevention, and community engagement efforts. He is also a 1.5 generation immigrant who specializes in concerns related to living as a person with marginalized identities, grief/loss, interpersonal difficulties, and complex life transitions. Working from trauma-informed, sex-positive, multicultural and decolonizing framework, Dr. Junichi will support you in the process of healing, self-discovery, and empowerment to live a fulfilling life that you deserve.
Junichi is a musician at a local Gamelan ensemble and finds it recharging when learning new music and feeling the sense of “togetherness” with the fellow musicians and dancers. He also enjoys going for a hike with his Shiba Inu, playing video games, and also pushing himself to step out of the comfort zone and learning a new skill (e.g., Improv).
