Dr. Lizette Aguirre is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, and concerns related to identity and belonging. Her approach is warm, collaborative, and culturally responsive, integrating evidence-based treatment with an understanding of the cultural, relational, and lived experiences that shape each person.
As a first-generation daughter of immigrants and a bilingual English- and Spanish-speaking psychologist, Dr. Aguirre is especially passionate about working with individuals from historically underserved and underrepresented communities. She has extensive experience working with first-generation and immigrant individuals, Spanish-speaking clients, LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent individuals, students, professionals, and caregivers.
Dr. Aguirre has specialized training in evidence-based treatments for trauma and anxiety, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and exposure-based interventions. She also integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and behavioral and humanistic approaches to help clients move toward lives that feel meaningful and authentic to them.
Dr. Aguirre earned her doctorate from the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium and completed her predoctoral internship at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center and postdoctoral fellowship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Aguirre is passionate about the training and development of future psychologists. As Banyan’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Training Director, she oversees the fellowship program and provides clinical supervision and mentorship to postdoctoral fellows. She is also Adjunct Clinical Faculty at Stanford University School of Medicine and previously served as Postdoctoral Fellowship Director at The Clinic.
For Dr. Aguirre, both therapy and clinical training are grounded in curiosity, humility, meaningful human connection, and the belief that growth happens when people feel genuinely seen, understood, and supported.
Healing begins when you feel truly seen — not just for what you are going through, but for the experiences, relationships, and cultures that have shaped who you are.
